One Two Three: Susannah Conway

We all have a list of people we’ve “met” online and want to sit down and have a frosty beverage with. There’s a subset of my list that would have the drink come at the end of a long day wandering around some idyllic location taking photographs.

Susannah Conway has a big star beside her name given that she’d be game for a garden or graffiti adorned alley. I like that in a photographer.

THE CAMERA

“If I’m going somewhere and I know I’ll want to take photos with something more meaningful than my iPhone, I take my SX-70. This camera is an extension of my eye — it’s become a part of me, a crucial element in how I see the world. I still have a stash of 600 film in my fridge which I’m slowly working my way through that, but the older it gets, the more yellow the film becomes, so I know I’ll need to blast through it at some point. But it makes me nervous — Polaroid film is my drug of choice; I’ll probably keep one unopened pack of 600 in my fridge forever, just so I can say I still have some.”

THE PHOTOGRAPHS

“The first Polaroid is one of my favourites; the second shot I scanned this morning. I love how my chosen combination of film and camera works so beautifully in any situation, from the prettiness of nature to the dirtiness of the city — in this case the south coast of England and the Meatpacking District in Manhattan.”

THREE WORDS

“Unravelling. Stillness. Now.”
